Hi!! Lovely!!
Marvellous.
Wow 👍🏼
I feel like there are minors available with this tuning. The B and D (of the open G chord) are the root and 3rd of a Bm chord. So by grouping strings 1-2 and 4-5 together you can play minor thirds all over. I know the 5th (F# in the Bm chord) isn't there, but do lap steel players ever use that trick to play minor chords?
Interesting. Thanks!
Thank you for making this. I have FD in both hands. I am also a full-time, professional guitar player. After over 6 years of retraining, I rehabilitated my fretting hand, but the picking hand remains a challenge. It's very hard for me to hold a flat pick. I have to use different pick grips based on whether I am strumming chords or alternate picking. I've managed to keep on playing, albeit with a very clumsy and inconsistent alternate picking technique. I'm lucky that others still like my playing even though it's a daily frustration for me. I hope one day to find a way to pick without it feeling like I'm holding a salmon in my hand.
I’ve been trying to learn this. This the best video so far. Thanks
Excellent series! Thank you so much!!!!!
Super cool series. Thanks for all the info!
Thanks so much Dave very inspiring video . I’m sax player and am having neurological problems too…
Fantastic lesson. Best Travis picking less than I've seen.
Great intros! Thanks so much!
Hi Matt --do you have any TAB for your great picking pattern ?
I love this song. And both of you two singing it. <3
Beautiful!
Are you tuned to the E tuning on that lap steel guitar nice playing
I think he is using high G or dobro tuning. GBDgbd
fantastic videos that I'm going to watch 100s of times
Now I know your secret thank you
Nice. Miss him too...
Nice!
Great stuff Baron!
Thank you so much Matt. I definitely enjoy your teaching for Travis Picking .... You make it easier to understand and to follow.❤😊
We'll visit you when we tour through Austin .. Your studio sounds fantastic .
I just want to play songs that are recognizeable. How do I do that?
So great to hear Danny play rockabilly finger style!!
This is one of the best blues guitar lesson I have ever seen! Thank you!
Grazie, Maestro!
What kind of strings (gauges and note) do you use to get the Dobro G tuning on a lap steel? I assume a traditional acoustic dobro G set won't work with the electric pickup on a lap steel. The only lap steel G tuned sets I see are for low to high: GDGBDG, .58-.16. so, not sure where to find the right strings for a lap steel to use Dobro G tuning.
Does anyone know what set of strings to use for open G tuninig on a lap steel?
Very nicely explained and demo-ed ~Thank You
Matt, we ALL love your instructional videos - and guitar tips - but, do yourself a favor and lose a few...
Beautiful fluid playing!
Bravo! Thank you very much for this amazing intro to chords and Blues notes on the lap steel guitar. BTW, beautiful playing also. I've truly enjoyed this video.
thank you for this!!!
Thanks for your help!!
My musical interests have taken a new direction and your videos really provide a solid foundation as I work to develop my skills. Question: I am currently in “D”, would raising my 2nd string a whole step give me the same relative sound you get while in “E”? Thank you - R
Yes! D and E are identical, just a whole step higher
Do you give lessons? Years ago I studied under Gerry Byrd ,now I’m taking it up again. I’m a pianist; love all music genres
Great presentation MAc! Thank you
I like the slide. Who makes it?
No. It isn’t a whole step chromatic. It is HALF STEPS CHROMATIC.
Anyone know what kind of slide that is? Can’t seem to find this online
Love to buy this lap steel with pedal bars on left hand
You look so different in Dr Who
Immediately accessible: thank you
Been playing guitars for 60yrs. Always loved the steel guitar and finally bought one yesterday. It will be here tomorrow. I can't wait to get started. Your giving me a head start. Thank you sir. I'll be following you closely.

The strings used are steel string, used in regular guitars? Thank you 🤓
Matt is a gifted teacher and an amazing human being!
6 String Ranch, thanks for this video, 35 Years ago, i found a 1957 Lap Steel Supro, in a Pawn Shop for $100 Bucks, it was my Birthday, It is White with Black Pinstripes, the pickup looks like a Horseshoe, it still sounds great, Cousin Figel
Many thanks, Matt. Now for my first ever instrument do I spend CDN $ 500 - 800 for a vintage Supro / National / Gibson? I have a good ear plus a vintage Regal R-1130 tube amp......🌝🌚🌝🌚🌝🌚...... I will know once I have plugged it in.
